Client Quick Help

Update your addresswith USCIS (AR-11)

Moved recently? Every noncitizen in the U.S. must notify USCIS within 10 days of moving. Failing to update can mean missing RFE notices, approval letters, or even removal proceedings.

Who must file? With limited exceptions for A and G visa holders and Visa Waiver visitors, every foreign national in the United States—green card holders, students, work-visa holders, and dependents alike—must notify USCIS within 10 days of an address change. Penalties can reach $5,000 or even removal.

01

Sign in to myUSCIS

USCIS encourages online filing through myUSCIS—the fastest, most reliable method, and the one that updates the address on every pending case at once.

Any myUSCIS account type works for this. If you don't have one, create one on the sign-in page.

Go to myUSCIS →
02

Select "Change your address"

Once signed in, choose "Change your address" under My Account.

The system will ask whether you have any pending cases—if you do, have your Receipt Numbers ready.

03

Provide the required information

Have the following ready:

  • Legal name (First / Middle / Last)
  • Date of birth
  • New physical address (not a P.O. Box)
  • A-Number (if applicable)
  • Case / Receipt Number (for any pending cases)

⚠️ Do not enter Receipt Numbers for closed cases—only for cases that are still pending.

04

Track your submission

After submitting, you can review your AR-11 filing under "View my submissions" in myUSCIS, including the confirmation number. Take a screenshot or save the PDF for your records.

Filing online automatically satisfies the Form AR-11 (Alien's Change of Address Card) requirement— no paper form needed.

05

Don't forget USPS mail forwarding

The USCIS AR-11 update does not notify the U.S. Postal Service. File a separate USPS Change of Address so paper notices from your attorney and from USCIS reach you at the new address.

One more thing: Email your immigration attorney once you've filed, and attach a screenshot of the AR-11 confirmation page. The firm needs to update your case file so all future correspondence reaches you correctly.
